At the Golden Globes 2017, La La Land was the big winner of the night as it won all seven categories in which it was nominated. It earned top actor and actress awards for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone while Damien Chazelle took home Best Director and Best Original Screenplay awards at the 74th Golden Globe Awards. The film was also adjudged best film. The awards split the top film winners into two categories, La La Land won in Comedy and Musical category. For us in India, it was Priyanka Chopra’s red carpet appearance followed by Baywatch star presenting the award in Best TV Actor- Drama category to Billy Bob Thornton which was the highlight. Wearing a gold gown with a deep neckline, Priyanka was confident on the Golden Globes stage.
Meanwhile, Moonlight was the winner of the Golden Globe Award for best film drama. Moonlight follows a boy’s path to adulthood through a dangerous Miami neighborhood. Isabelle Huppert is the winner of the Golden Globe Award for best actress in a film drama. Huppert won for her role as in the French film Elle, which also won the best foreign language film award Sunday. She beat out Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Ruth Negga and Natalie Portman. Casey Affleck has won the Golden Globe Award for best actor in a drama film for his portrayal of grieving father in Manchester by the Sea. Affleck’s performance is considered one of the best of his career and he is considered a favorite to receive a best actor Oscar nomination later this month.
But it was La La Land that had all the attention. The musical about a jazz musician and an actress who fall in love as they struggle to establish their careers in Los Angeles won in all seven categories for which it was nominated. That included awards for stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone and director Damien Chazelle.
Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager) and Claire Foy (The Crown) have already earned top honours in TV. The Crown was also the best TV series. Meryl Streep teed off on Donald Trump while accepting a top honor during Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards. Streep repeatedly criticized Trump and his remarks targeting various groups, including foreigners and journalists, while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award. The actress’ speech silenced the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and her remarks immediately became a trending topic on Twitter.
